My grandmother made this every August when the orchards opened. Just 3 ingredients for the most tender fall-apart dinner that tastes like it took all day.

1.Arrange Pork Chops :Prep the Slow Cooker.

Lightly coat the inside of your slow cooker with nonstick spray for easier cleanup. Place the pork chops in the bottom in a single layer as much as possible.

2.Mix and Sauce :

In a small bowl, stir the apple butter and onion soup mix together until well combined. Spoon the mixture evenly over the pork chops, covering the tops well.

3.Slow Cook :Low for 5–6 hrs | High for 3–4 hrs.

Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours (or on high for 3 to 4 hours) until the pork is very tender and cooked through.

4.Rest and Serve :10 minutes resting time.

Spoon some of the sauce over the chops before serving. For an extra sticky finish, let the cooked chops rest uncovered in the warm sauce for 10 minutes before plating.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these pork chops with mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles, or plain white rice to catch every bit of that apple butter sauce.

  • Classic Sides: Green beans, roasted carrots, or simple fried apples.

  • Orchard Plate: A scoop of applesauce and a square of warm cornbread make the meal feel complete.

Variations & Food Science Tips

Sauce Consistency: If your apple butter is particularly thick, loosen the mixture with 2 to 3 tablespoons of water before spooning it over the pork. This helps it spread evenly and creates more sauce in the pot.

  • Boneless Chop Option: You can use boneless pork chops, but check on them earlier as they cook faster and tend to dry out more easily than bone-in chops.

  • Add Extra Warmth: Add a pinch of black pepper or a small shake of cinnamon to the sauce mixture to complement the spices in the apple butter.

  • Layer Flavors: Place peeled apple slices or sliced onions under and around the pork chops in the slow cooker for extra body and natural sweetness.

  • Storage & Reheating: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently with an extra spoonful of sauce to keep the pork moist.
